Hull's Ricketts ready to face Premiership stars

Hull City fullback Sam Ricketts is excited about the prospect of testing himself against the world's best wingers in the Premiership next season.

The Hull and Wales right-back said: "It will be a good experience. I've played against England, Germany, Brazil, so I've played against the best in the world.

"To do it week-in, week-out will be a big ask but it something I've always wanted to do.

"There are some players like Ronaldo who, one-on-one, are going to do you in the Premiership. You just have to make it as little as possible and try to stop them playing.

"But I have the confidence in my own ability after playing for Wales.

"I support Liverpool so for me to go to Anfield will be a great occasion."

And Ricketts, 27, reckons joining the Premier League thoroughbreds proves he was right to turn down a career in showjumping.

The Hull right back's dad Derek is a former world champion and now boss of the GB equestrian team heading for the Beijing Olympics.

He added: "I come from a show jumping family and as a kid I had the chance to go into that. Until the age of 14 I rode but I stopped when it clashed with football.

"I don't have any regrets now, not after this. But a few years ago I was probably thinking I'd have been better off riding than football. To get to the Premiership changes all that."
