Hull City vice-chairman Ehab Allam says they're taking a long-term view to their transfer policy.
Allam admits there will be no short-term fixes.
"Our recruitment and squad retention now is all about ensuring we as a club have flexibility over the next two to three years," Allam told the Hull Daily Mail.
"Obviously, the aim is to build a squad over the summer, and in January, to ensure we are still in the Premier League at the end of the season.
"But, most importantly, we need to ensure we are in a position to strengthen again to be stronger in our second year, and then again in our third. To do that, you need to build flexibility into your squad.
"Equally, you need to ensure that should you find yourself back in the Championship, you are able to cope and remain strong, and that's when it can be really hard.
"It's all a balancing act, but if you are signing players on longer-term deals, you have to make sure the deals are right for the club long-term also. It has to work both ways."
