Hull City striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink hopes to get amongst the goals this season to fire his way into Holland's World Cup squad.

"I still have international ambitions, but for now, the focus has to be on here and scoring goals," he told the Hull Daily Mail.

"I hope to be important for this club and everything that comes with it will be a bonus."

Given the chance to shine in the spotlight of the Premier League, the former Celtic man believes he has been given a real opportunity to re-establish his international career.

"Being in the biggest league, you have the advantage," he said. " Being at the highest level means you have to be able to compete and if you can do it there, it can make the difference."
