Hull to splash out on Newcastle striker Smith

Hull City boss Phil Brown is chasing Newcastle United striker Alan Smith. The News of the World says Smith has not played a single game for the Toon this season and is one of the many stars desperate to leave St James' Park. He was hoping to join Everton earlier this season but the deal fell through - and now Brown is poised to offer the former Manchester United striker a chance to resurrect his top-flight career. Smith could join the Tigers on loan until the end of the season with a view to making the deal permanent for around £3million.
