Hull City manager Steve Bruce is believed to be showing considerable interest in the Newcastle United job.
The Tigers boss is under pressure at the KC Stadium and could be lured to his native north east according to the Daily Mail.
With news that Alan Pardew is set to leave St James' Park to replace Neil Warnock at Crystal Palace, it has emerged that Bruce is one of the favourites to take up the Magpies role.
The report suggests that former Sunderland manager Bruce has a strong relationship with Toon's chief scout Graham Carr and the element that he is a boyhood Newcastle fan could also be an overriding factor.
Bruce is up against the likes of Tony Pulis, Tim Sherwood, Steve McClaren and Glenn Hoddle for the Magpies job.
