Hull City may pull the plug on a deal for Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire.
The Hull Daily Mail says City's hopes of recruiting Maguire have faded significantly.
Despite feeling confident of a deal seven days ago when discussing an improved offer from the £1.75m rejected by the Blades, the Tigers have been unable to thrash out a compromise during regular dialogue this week.
Sheffield United are believed to be steadfast in their valuation of Maguire and unwilling to move on a figure of £3m. City will not to meet those demands and have told officials at Bramall Lane they are now considering other options.
