Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that Nikica Jelavic wanted to move on this winter in order to gain regular first team minutes.
Croatian striker Jelavic today joined Hull City on a three-and-a-half-year deal, for a reported fee of £6.5million, after appearing just nine times for the Toffees in the Premier League this season.
Speaking after the 28-year olds Goodison Park exit, Martinez insisted that the club put a possible transfer in front of him and the ex-Rangers ace opted to depart so he could play consistently ahead of this summer's World Cup.
"We agreed the deal (with Hull) and it was down to Nikica to make his decision," he told the club's official website.
"I do believe when I spoke to Niki that he was clear that he wanted to join Hull.
"He felt he would get the opportunity to play the games he needs ahead of the World Cup."
Jelavic made a total of 69 appearances in all competitions, scoring 21 goals in two years at Everton.
