Hull City captain Curtis Davies has revealed how he wrote to the Premier League's biggest clubs after being axed by Wimbledon as a 16 year-old.
Davies is now emerging as one of the best defensive performers in the Premier League this season.
"I was quite cheeky really. I shouldn't have written to those clubs. It was one of those - you don't ask, you don't get," Davies told the Hull Daily Mail.
"I wrote to Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham. I got a few rejection letters from clubs like that. I was cheeky. I had no right to ask to go to Chelsea after I'd just been released from Wimbledon.
"Those rejection letters and then going to Luton was the best thing that happened to me."
