But Mike Phelan has now signed a £1.5million deal until the end of the season.

However, he is set to lose a trio of key backroom staff members to Aston Villa.

Steve Bruce took over as Aston Villa boss yesterday and is set to bring in coaches Stephen Clemence and Gary Walsh and fitness coach Will Royall to the Claret and Blues.
