Hull chairman Pearson admits clearout plans fell short

Hull City chairman Adam Pearson admits he was disappointed not to move more players on in the January market.

City managed to move both Daniel Cousin and Peter Halmosi out of the club in loan deals.

Cousin joined Greek side Larissa until the end of the season, with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.

Halmosi returned to his former club Szombathelyi Halafas in Hungary.

They followed Nathan Doyle, Tony Warner and Bryan Hughes out of the club this month.

Despite this, Pearson said he had only made 'minimal' inroads into reducing the £36m wage bill, due to Amr Zaki's arrival at the club and Hunt negotiating a new and improved deal.

"We would like to have moved a few more players on but it is a very difficult market at present," he told the Hull Daily Mail. "As a club we have taken the decision to make staying in the Premier League the priority.

"We took a calculated gamble by bringing in Zaki to add fire power up front.

"And in holding on to Stephen we have shown that we are committed to staying up. We can focus further on reducing the debt at the club in the summer. I have no concern about that.

"Now it is a case of everybody at the club pulling together and making the KC Stadium a cauldron.

"We feel we have the quality in the squad now capable of keeping us up."
