Hull City chairman Paul Duffen is not convinced a salary cap could work in English football, as proposed by Football Association chairman Lord Triesman. "The difficulty with a salary cap is you have to remember the Premier League does not operate in a vacuum it has to compete globally," he told Sky Sports News.
"So it couldn't be something the Premier League or Uefa could have control over, it would have to be a Fifa global enforceable rule to ensure we were still able to bring the best talent into English football and to underpin our status as the best league in the world.
"So I think sadly while it's a great idea in theory, I do agree enforcement could end up making the whole thing pretty laughable. You can't even think about it unless it could be enforced globally.
"I think that's a very hard thing to get agreement on. I'm afraid you spend so much time on enforcement, on wrangling and rows, that I do think in practice it's unworkable."
