Hull City chairman Paul Duffen is delighted to have secured Phil Brown to a new contract, worth a mooted £500,000-a-year.

Duffen joked: "I wish it was only £500,000. No, Phil is a great guy, a friend of mine, we get on very well together and I would do whatever it took to make sure he was happy. I've got enormous respect for him.

"Realistically, this season we'll be looking to stay up because of finances as much as any other reason. Though you could say we're one of the wealthiest clubs because we haven't got any debt! If we can finish in the top half of the bottom six it will be a job well done."
