Hull City skipper Curtis Davies is determined to win back his starting place.
The 29-year-old has been an unused substitute for the games with Everton and West Brom and may be forced to accept another place on the bench when City travel to Chelsea this weekend.
"It's obviously frustrating," Davies told the Hull Daily Mail. "Every player wants to play football, especially when you're the captain of the football club. You want to be out there and helping the side.
"The manager pulled me in and spoke to me about it but I don't feel as though the armband should protect me.
"I don't want to be that player who people look at and say 'He's only playing because he's the captain.'
"I want to be playing because I was the Player of the Season last year and be back at that level.
"I want to be playing because I'm indispensable. I'm hoping I can prove that to the manager again and get back in the side very soon."
