Hull boss slates Leeds winger Sam for "coward's challenge"

Nigel Pearson accused Leeds winger Lloyd Sam of a dreadful challenge on Liam Rosenior after the Hull defender was carried off in the two team's 2-2 draw at the KC Stadium. The Tigers right-back departed on a stretcher in stoppage time of Tuesday night's npower Championship clash.

Pearson fumed: "We don't know yet but I'm not happy about the challenge.

"I've just seen it, I didn't realise how bad it was at the time but he's led with his arm. It's a bit of a coward's challenge, unfortunately."

Asked where Rosenior had been injured, Pearson added: "Neck, so we'll have to see how he is.

"He's conscious now - shocking challenge."

Leeds counterpart Simon Grayson defended his midfielder.

The Whites manager said: "I've just seen it now and Lloyd's gone for the ball with it and he's unfortunately just followed through and caught him with his arm.

"Lloyd's not the type of player to get involved in any sort of deliberate elbows. He's got the ball, his momentum has carried him through.

"Normally, Lloyd's jumping out of the way of those things so it's an unfortunate incident.

"The referee's so close to it as well - if he thought it was deliberate, I'm sure he'd do something about it.

"I think it's the right decision. He's not that type of player. We wish Liam well and hopefully he's alright in the next few days."
