Hull went down 3-0 at Bristol City for their first away defeat in 17 games and immediately boss Nigel Pearson turned his attention to the summer transfer market. "What showed up is that we do not have enough players to cover when some key ones are missing. That is something I must look to put right during the close season.
"Sometimes you learn more from a performance like this than from close games. Obviously I am not happy or ready to put it down to the fact that it was our last game of the season.
"I had already pretty much made up my mind about which players we need to keep and which we should let go, but you could say that this has clarified things further.
"I also learned more about some of the lads than I knew before."
City boss Keith Millen said: "I thought the attitude of the players was first class. We all wanted to produce a display worthy of the chairman's last game and that's what happened.
"To have reached 60 points after earning just six from our first 11 games offers great encouragement for next season.
"We scored two early goals and I knew that if we made a good start it could knock the heart out of Hull in a final game where they didn't have much to play for.
"It was nice to do our end-of-season lap of honour with the chairman on the back of such a good win and I believe we can be a promotion force next season with the right additions during the summer."
