Hull boss Harper: I tell my U11s not to defend like Newcastle

Hull City goalkeeper Steve Harper has taken a swipe at former club Newcastle United.

Harper has returned a damning verdict on the defensive shortcomings of former club Newcastle.

"I teach my under-11 side at Red House Farm (in Newcastle) not to let the goalkeeper's kicks bounce, but they did it," Harper told the Daily Mal when discussing Toon's defeat at Everton.

"They just looked like strangers.

"I love Colo (Coloccini), I think he's a top, top player.

"But with Mbiwa, they just didn't react off each other.

"For the first goal, Colo went beyond the front post like he has a tendency to do, but the other centre-half has to recognise that and pick up Lukaku, but he didn't.

"Again for the second (Mathieu) Debuchy made a good recovering run but Mbiwa, rather than react to Debuchy, has headed out to the right-back spot.

"The same happened for the third goal.

"They are very thorough with the coaching but you wouldn't have thought so inside that first 45 minutes, as Alan Pardew admitted himself."
