Hull City boss Steve Bruce admits he let people down at Sheffield United.
Sunday's FA Cup semi-final sees Bruce go up against the club who gave him his break as a manager in 1998.
But the Hull boss claims the last 16 years have made him a wiser and calmer manager.
Bruce said: "When I was younger, I was a nightmare. I let people down.
"I resigned from Sheffield because things were promised to me that weren't forthcoming. I let people down when I was younger, certainly in management. I was a little bit headstrong and when you're younger, you want to take on the world.
"I don't think I was a control freak, I just couldn't get my head around things. When I joined Sheffield United, I was told I had £5m to spend. Then when I went to see the chief executive, he told me if I didn't raise £350,000 by August, we're not getting paid.
"The good thing about management is that experience helps you because something comes along your way every single day, something different and I think you learn.
"At first, you try to prove yourself to the boss, when you're new into it. You want to know who makes the tea. It doesn't make any difference."
