Hull boss Bruce backs Chester to bounce back from Man Utd own-goal

Hull City manager Steve Bruce is confident that defender James Chester will recover from his own-goal in the 3-2 Boxing Day loss to Manchester United.

The Tigers skipped away to a two-goal lead after former United youth Chester and David Meyler hit the back of the net but goals from Chris Smalling and Wayne Rooney, before Chester headed into his own net, gave United the spoils.

In the aftermath, Bruce admitted it could have been a very special day for Chester but was full of belief that he would bounce back quickly.

"It could have been his day in many ways," said Bruce.

"He was at Man Utd from 10 or 11 and he'll have cherished playing against them and scoring after four minutes to give us the lead.

"Then he's headed one the wrong way, it happens. It'll be one he remembers for a long, long time.

"He's like all of us, disappointed. But he's a very good young players and he'll get over it."
