Hull City boss Steve Bruce believes Curtis Davies is capable of playing his way into the England.

Bruce said Davies should take inspiration from Southampton striker Rickie ­Lambert, 31, who has forced his way into the England reckoning.

Bruce said: "Curtis has started the season and played very well.

"When you look around, there are not that many young centre-halves pushing for a place in the England squad. Why shouldn't he be looking in that direction?

"Look what Rickie Lambert has done. Who knows what might ­happen? Never say never."
