Hull City boss Steve Bruce is desperate for the rebranding row between fans and owner Assem Allam not to escalate.
While Bruce privately recognises that Allam is unlikely to bow to public pressure, he stressed how important it is for the row not to derail the fine start Hull have made to life in the top flight.
"They sacked the local hero here, Nick Barmby, so they don't want brownie points," he said. "They do not understand what it (the name change) means to a lot of people.
"If we are Hull City Tigers, or whatever, we must stick together. We are up against it but I will have a conversation about it."
