Hull City boss Phil Brown is delighted with the capture of former Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
He said: "Where Jan was concerned, there was a contract offer on the table at Celtic, but he felt as if he was better than that.
"He also has a massive point to prove with regards to the Dutch national team. He's 30 years old and probably still in his prime in terms of his football career.
"If you look at his goalscoring record, it's almost second to none. It's a one-in-two almost all the way through his career."
The former PSV Eindhoven forward, who spent three years at Parkhead, has been training with FC Twente in recent weeks.
"I looked at other clubs and held talks with them, but I didn't get the right feeling from them," said Vennegoor of Hesselink.
"When I came to Hull City, I got the right feeling straight away. I am glad that everything has worked out okay and I am now looking forward to the challenge of playing in the biggest league in the world.
"I want to play at the next World Cup. If I'm playing club games, that will give me the opportunity to get back into the Dutch squad."
