Hull boss Brown views criticism as backhanded compliments

Hull City boss Phil Brown believes opposition jeers to The Tigers style of play is vindication of the club and how it is prospering in its first season in the Premier League. They currently occupy sixth spot in the top-flight table and have lost just four of their 15 games so far.

They faced a torrent of terrace taunts during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Stoke City.

"It's a compliment to a certain extent," said the City boss.

"You come to take the money out of their pockets, come here for the points, don't you?

"If the Stoke fans are unhappy it's because we've done our job.

"The last two away journeys have been fairly successful in terms of that - we played against Portsmouth in a different game of football (2-2 draw) and we've played against Stoke, and we've stood up to that tactical battle.

"We've done well on our journeys so far; nobody's come to Stoke and stood up to them recently, so I'm quite proud of what we've done."
