Rennes centre-back Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik has attracted a bid from Hull City.
The Hull Daly Mail says French sources state the Tigers had opened talks with the Cameroon international over a proposed switch to the KC Stadium.
Kana-Biyik, 25, has spent the last four seasons at Rennes but is keen to pursue a fresh start in the Premier League following a fall-out with the French club last season.
City have suffered frustrations in their bid to sign both Joleon Lescott and Michael Dawson, while a move for Sheffield United's Harry Maguire continues to meet obstacles.
