Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has been named as April's Coca-Cola Manager of the Month in the Championship. The Magpies capped a memorable season, gaining 16 points from a possible 18 in April, including five consecutive victories.

Also shortlisted for the award were Ian Holloway of Blackpool, Dave Jones of Cardiff and Leicester's Nigel Pearson.

Alan Curbishley, chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month Awards panel, said: "Chris Hughton deserves special praise for the way in which he has masterminded another superb month for the Magpies.

"Their unbeaten run in April capped a fine season and culminated in them lifting the Championship title and with it a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking."
