Hughton believes in his own abilities to keep Newcastle in the top flight

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton remains upbeat over keeping the club in the Premier League. The Magpies head into Sunday's clash with champions Chelsea at St James' Park on the back of a run of three games which has yielded just a single point culminating in last Saturday's 5-1 drubbing at Bolton.

That set the alarm bells ringing in some quarters but coming as it did just a fortnight after Hughton's men had followed up their famous 5-1 derby rout of Sunderland with a stunning 1-0 victory at Arsenal, the manager insists there is no need for panic.

He said: "You lose a game and it's the end of the world; you win a game and you feel like you could be in the top 10. It's that type of game.

"Every result is a big result, every point is a big point.

"So far, we have been able to pick up enough points to put us in the position we are in, and we have to keep endeavouring to do that.

"You have to have belief. We are going to have some bad days. At the start of the season, we knew it was going to be a tough season and we have to expect that.

"But I certainly do think we have enough quality here."
