Chris Hughton's demand for his own backroom team scuppered his chances at West Bromwich Albion.
Former Liverpool and Fulham boss Roy Hodgson was named new Baggies manager yesterday.
The Daily Mail says for ex-Newcastle United boss Hughton, a crucial sticking point was the composition of his backroom team as the 52-year-old wanted to bring in Colin Calderwood - the Hibernian manager - as his No 2, and former Newcastle goalkeeping coach Paul Barron.
However, the cost of bringing in everyone involved tipped the balance back in Hodgson's favour.
