Brighton boss Chris Hughton says their buying isn't over this month.
He wants another attacking option after loan signing Izzy Brown's return to Chelsea with a long-term knee injury.
Hughton told The Argus: “We are trying. It's very difficult and that's why up until now there hasn't been so much business done at Premier League level.
“But we are trying to be as strong as possible."
Hughton is relieved to have an attention-diverting FA Cup fourth round trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday after losing heavily to Chelsea.
“Yes, particularly right at this moment," he said.
“We are on the back of a 4-0 defeat, which I don't think is a reflection of the game as a whole, particularly with some of the chances we had and perhaps the penalty opportunities we had.
“So at this moment it feels quite a low moment. I think we'll look forward to a Cup game and freshen again and look forward to a very tough series of games coming up."
