Hughes upbeat after Man City maintain 100% start

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is pleased with progress after his side beat Portsmouth 1-0 to maintain their perfect start to the season. Hughes told Sky Sports News: "Yes, I think so. I think we have had a really good start, really positive from our point of view and we're getting clean sheets, if you do that then you've got a chance of winning games.

"Fratton Park is always a difficult place to come to get results but I thought we were good value today."

David Nugent spurned a great opportunity to equalise for Pompey late on as Shay Given saved his shot but Hughes thought a draw would have been harsh on City.

"Obviously as the away side you're not going to go through the whole 90 minutes and not concede a chance to the home side and obviously Shay had to be up to the mark for the goal and he's done it time and time again for us," he said.

"But as I say we had other opportunities - we are disappointed that the goal in the first half was chalked out because clearly Micah was onside but I think the linesman must have thought that Gareth Barry had finished the goal off but that wasn't the case so that was obviously something that we are a bit aggrieved about and a few other decisions as well to be perfectly honest but we got through it and it's a real positive performance and result for us."
