Hughes: Stoke were a ‘million miles away’ at Spurs

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes blasted his players in the wake of Sunday's 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Potters were no match for Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs at White Hart Lane in what was a deeply disappointing performance in North London.

Harry Kane scored a hat-trick and Dele Alli added a fourth as Stoke fell behind by four goals at the break, before somewhat stemming the bleeding in the second half.

"We were a million miles away from where we needed to be today, which is disappointing," he told stokecityfc.com.

"The frustration for me is that I see the guys train day in, day out and the levels are so much higher than what they showed today.

"The key is being able to transfer that from the training pitch onto the pitch on a Saturday or a Sunday and for whatever reason we weren't able to do that.

"Defensively we were nowhere near good enough, especially in one versus one situations, they were very clever we didn't get near to them and they were able to create opportunities far too easily.

"When you are playing good teams with real good quality then you have got to get everything spot on, and we didn't manage to do that today."

He added: "The goals we conceded were incredibly poor, from both an individual perspective and collectively - we simply have to do better."
