Hughes still expected to take Aston Villa job

Mark Hughes is still being tipped to take the Aston Villa job.

The London Evening Standard says Carlo Ancelotti last night ruled himself out of the running for the job at Villa and has headed back to Italy on holiday.

And with Guus Hiddink still expected to be appointed Chelsea manager, the only position Hughes can fill is the one vacated by Gerard Houllier this week.

Hughes is now officially on gardening leave and Fulham insist that he cannot talk to another club until his contract runs out on June 30.

Villa, for their part, maintain that they have not made any contact with the former Manchester United striker - but they would leave themselves open to being sued for an illegal approach if they had spoken to Hughes or had any plans to do so in the next 27 days.
