Mark Hughes believes Blackburn could be on the verge of something special because of the buoyant mood of his players this season.

A goal from Benni McCarthy was enough to secure a 1-0 victory against Manchester City and continue Rovers' bright start to the season.

Manager Hughes said: "There is a change in the dressing room. The atmosphere has always been good but it is a bit more intense now.

"The players have confidence in themselves and in their team-mates.

"We are excited about what is happening, although it is very early days yet."
