Mark Hughes is back in the frame for the Aston Villa job.
Villa suffered rejection yesterday from Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez.
The Telegraph says the former Fulham manager had been discounted after his acrimonious exit from Craven Cottage. Although the Welshman had emerged as a front-runner when Gerard Houllier's departure on health grounds was first mooted, his decision to activate a break clause in his contract after holding discussions over signing a new deal did not impress owner Randy Lerner.
Though Hughes is thought to be disappointed at being left out of the process, it is believed the former Manchester City manager has not completely ruled out joining Aston Villa.
