Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes says expectations were greater at Manchester United when he was a player than nowadays.

Former United striker Hughes said: "Sir Alex has put the foundation stones in at United and the club has grown to a huge size. The expectation is still huge but with the fact that he has won trophies and the Premier League title on so many occasions, perhaps the expectation isn't quite so great now.

"That maybe sounds contradictory, but when Sir Alex first arrived at Old Trafford United hadn't won the league for almost 20 years. I was in his team in the early days and every year we didn't win the league it became even more demanding."
