Manchester City boss Mark Hughes believes Premiership fans are happy for the club's new financial power.

"Fans of other clubs have looked at what has happened at Manchester City over the years and felt sorry for them," said Hughes.

"They have always had a respect for the passion the fans have had for the club even when things were going pear-shaped.

"They align themselves to clubs like that. They have a soft spot for us and would like to see us do well - to a certain point."
