Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is grateful to his board's support after seeing former Manchester United teammate Paul Ince sacked by Blackburn Rovers.
He said: "I have had fantastic support (from the board). They know it is a case of little by little.
"We are not going to be an outstanding team overnight. What we need to do is add to the quality already in the squad.
"We need to be consistent on a regular basis. If we can do that we have good quality that will come to the fore."
The demands on Premier League managers to get a string good results was emphasised this week when Hughes' successor at Blackburn, Paul Ince, was sacked.
Hughes accepts the demands on coaches at the top level are ever increasing.
He said: "A manager's job is difficult, we know that. We know the pressures we are under.
"We are expected to get results and when you can't do that then build will try and build the pressure on managers.
"Everyone understands that. You just have to be strong and comfortable in the knowledge is that your good work, given time, it gets you results."
