Hughes delighted with Kompany impact at Man City

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is delighted with the impact made by former Hamburg defender Vincent Kompany.

Hughes told City's website: "He has had a real impact since he arrived here. He's quite intense at times, but very focused and a good professional. He wants to be better than he is now, and he is enjoying playing in the Premier League.

"When he makes a mistake he can get very down on himself, but I think that's a good trait to have. That shows the type of person and the type of player that he is.

"He had another great game against Arsenal, was very strong & resolute when he needed to be and he's always looking to free people up in the forward areas."

Kompany's debut against West Ham in August saw him slot into central defence after an injury to Micah Richards, and although he accepts that it's a position he looked equally at home with, the Manager is adamant that the player is best suited to his holding role in the City midfield.

He adds, "He plays very well at centre-back, we watched the game against Spain in the last international break and he was outstanding there. Vincent himself enjoys midfield, though, and that's where he is for us because it is a position where we are a bit light. That's where he will stay for the foreseeable future."
