Hughes concedes early goal rocked QPR

QPR boss Mark Hughes admitted his side never recovered after conceding a first-minute goal in the 6-1 defeat at Chelsea. "We gave ourselves a mountain to climb," Hughes told Sky Sports.

"Chelsea were on a high after the events of midweek and we wanted to frustrate them and not give them any encouragement, and unfortunately we didn't manage to do that.

"We then tried to have a go and that compromised us at the back. The feeling was that we could come here and frustrate for an initial period. As it was we were behind after 20-odd seconds.

"We tried to chase the game, albeit naively, and got picked off. We didn't do ourselves any favours but in fairness Chelsea showed a lot of energy and we couldn't cope with that.

"We've got to put it behind us. We've got a massive game next week and our home form has been very good."
