Manchester City boss Mark Hughes rates bringing back Shaun Wright-Phillips to Eastlands from Chelsea, as one of his best ever pieces of business. The 27 year old found it hard to hold down a consistent place in the staring line-up at Stamford Bridge and returned North for a cut-price £9 million.
Hughes told The Manchester Evening News, "He wants to be involved in everything that we are doing and he is also a proud Englishman who wants to be part of that international set-up as much as he can. Shaun just loves playing football, that is the top and bottom of it. He has a love of the game that is plain for everyone to see.
"Possibly on occasions he plays when he shouldn't do but that is credit to him and even when he does he still puts in a performance and invariably has an impact on a game."
"I am so pleased that I brought him back," the Welshman added.
"It has been good for Shaun and everyone at the club because having come through the ranks everyone has a lot of time and affection for him.
"The fact that he returned as a better player than when he left for Chelsea just makes it even better for everyone. Of all the deals I have done he is up there with the best of them."
