Hughes: Blackburn deserved boos

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes may have made five changes to the team that played against Sunderland in midweek but even that fails to explain the dismal performance which saw the Premiership side crash out of the FA Cup 4-1 to Championship outfit Coventry.

For Rovers defender Zurab Khizanishvili it was a particular nightmare; his unlucky deflection in the first half saw Malta international Michael Mifsud give Coventry the lead.

Then the Georgian's push allowed the visitors to double their advantage from the penalty spot through Elliot Ward on 62 minutes.

The Ewood Park crowd showed their displeasure by booing their team throughout the second half for despite all Rovers possession it was Coventry who looked the more dangerous on the break.

When Dele Adebola powered through with seven minutes remaining to score the third last season's FA Cup semi- finalists misery was complete.

Deep into injury time Blackburn's humiliation continued as Mifsud crashed home his second of the afternoon.

David Bentley's late strike was little consolation to the disappointing crowd of 14,421.

"The crowd had every right to boo that performance," admitted a grim faced Hughes.

"We controlled the first half without really causing them any problems and were a bit unfortunate to go behind but the second half performance was unacceptable from our point of view.

"We made changes at 2-0 but the players don't tune into your game plan and in the end it was quite comprehensive.

"The changes I made shouldn't have made any difference as we had enough quality out there but you have to say were some of the players up for the challenge? Were they hurting enough?

"The second half we were always chasing the game and throwing people forward without any thought or direction and as a consequence kept getting caught on the break.

"Credit to Coventry they were excellent on the day and thoroughly deserved their win because on the day they were better."
