Huddersfield Town signing Ben Hamer explains leaving Leicester

Huddersfield Town signing Ben Hamer has explained his move from Leicester City.

Hamer, 30, has signed a three year deal at Huddersfield despite Leicester pulling out all the stops to persuade him to stay at the King Power Stadium.

Former Charlton keeper Hamer had four years at Leicester but decided to leave to get a better chance of regular first team football.

He said: “I feel like I will get a better chance at Huddersfield to play regularly and even though their keeper had a really good season it will be more of a level playing field.

“My contract came to an end at Leicester, they wanted me to stay and we'd been talking for a long time so it certainly wasn't a case of being released as they appear to be saying.

“I had four great years at Leicester, I loved it there and I like to think I'd brought something to the club otherwise they wouldn't have wanted me to stay.

“But I always felt that no matter how well I did, Kasper Schmeichel was the first choice, he's something of a legend there and I needed to go somewhere to play.

“Anyone wants to be playing week-in and week-out in the Premier League and, while there's no guarantees at Huddersfield, they offered me a contract and a challenge to go and play.

“It's a really exciting opportunity, I wanted to spread my wings and try something new and different."
