Howe satisfied with Bournemouth's first pre-season friendly

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has expressed his happiness at his side's 2-1 victory over Estoril.

The Cherries managed to claim a 2-1 victory over the Portuguese side with goals from Jordon Ibe and Max Gradel.

Following the game, manager Eddie Howe believed that the performance of his side in Marbella on Saturday was 'patchy' but he was left happy with the improved fitness levels the players displayed during the encounter.

Howe told the club website: "It was a good win. It doesn't matter what competition it is or whether it's a pre-season friendly, the aim is to win.

"I thought it was a patchy performance. You expect a little bit of rustiness and I thought that was evident but we improved in both halves towards the end.

"It was important that the majority of the squad who were here and fit played. I have been pleased with the attitude of the players all week.

"It has been a really intense week and very hot. I don't think we fully appreciate on the sidelines how much that affects everything you do on the pitch but the lads have given their all. Fitness-wise, it was a great exercise."
