Tim Howard has welcomed Everton's signing of Slovakia international goalkeeper Jan Mucha.
Mucha will arrive at Goodison Park on a Bosman-style free transfer from Polish club Legia Warsaw after the World Cup.
Howard told the Liverpool Echo: "It's not playing on my mind in a negative way, I think it's good that we've had competition since I've been here.
"The manager has brought in a stable of goalkeepers and we continue to try and push each other.
"Jan will be another challenge but he'll also be a fantastic addition to this team and whether we like it or not as professionals in order to be a top, top team you have to have competition in all places. If you don't then you'll wallow at the bottom and that's not what we're about."
