Former Everton captain Dave Watson has revealed how an eleven year-old Wayne Rooney took the mick out of goalkeeper legend Neville Southall.
Manchester United striker Rooney was a mascot for a Merseyside derby at his beloved Goodison - and he was hell-bent on showing the Gwladys Street End what he was all about.
Watson recalled to The Sun: "The mascot would usually just go out and warm up Big Nev. But Wayne kept chipping him and Nev was getting really p***ed off about it.
"The thing with Nev is that he doesn't really have a polite way of saying things. So it wasn't a case of 'Excuse me son, pack that in', he just told him to f*****g stop that you little so and so!
"Wayne was always going to make a living from the game but I don't think anyone could have anticipated how well he would get on and in such a short space of time. But I believe Wayne's been great for Everton.
"The academy is producing plenty of kids and Wayne's a figurehead for them.
"They've seen kids getting a chance in the team and now want to come to Everton."
