Houston Dynamos sign deal with supermarket chain Kroger

American supermarket chain Kroger has signed a deal with the Houston Dynamo that will see it become the exclusive retail grocery partner of the team as well as a founding partner of its new BBVA Compass Stadium, which is due to open in May, reports Sports Pro. Although financial details have not been released, the deal has been described as long-term and is estimated to be worth a low seven-figure sum annually.

As part of the deal, Kroger will also back the Dynamo Skills Challenge, a grassroots programme aimed at the development of local soccer talent, and will implement other neighbourhood outreach schemes alongside the team.

"The opening of the new stadium is one the most anticipated events this year in Houston and Kroger is proud to not only be a founding partner but a community liaison for the organisation. We recognise the importance of supporting soccer fans across our city's diverse landscape," said Kroger southwest division president Bill Breetz.

"We are very excited to announce our new agreement with one of the nation's largest retail grocery chains," said Dynamo senior vice president for business development Steven Powell.

"Kroger is a company that understands the value of supporting their respective communities through its many grassroots based community initiatives. We look forward to assisting Kroger in growing its business in greater Houston and through our partnership, supporting its efforts to maintain and grow its reputation as America's most generous company."
