Houston Dynamo stadium approved by Harris County

Houston Dynamo's proposed new stadium is set to go ahead after it was approved by Harris County.

The Harris County Commissioners Court unanimously approved the new stadium and have entered a partnership with the City of Houston and the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority to build the venue which will be used by MLS club Houston Dynamo and Texas Southern University.

Dynamo ownership will come up with $60million whilst the city and county will each chip in $10million following the $15million purchase of the land.

Dynamo President Oliver Luck said it was a brilliant development for the club who have tried hard to have this happen in the past.

"We are delighted that Commissioners Court has given its approval to the new Dynamo stadium," said Luck.

"This decision means that Houston has a true grand slam with a first class venue for each of our major sports- football and rodeo at Reliant Stadium, basketball at Toyota Center, baseball at Minute Maid Park and soccer.

"It is socially significant that all of the major demographic groups in the region now have a sports venue to call their own."
