Houston Dynamo midfielder Adam Moffat has worked hard to get where he is but now he wants to go one step further and represent his country.
The 25-year old has been playing Major League Soccer since 2007 after beginning with Ross County and then moving onto Elgin City in Scotland's Third Division and now he is an established player in North America's top flight, is looking to enhance his career further.
Moffat, who was lured to Houston from Portland Timbers during this season, acknowledges he has come a long way but now has the Scotland national team in his sights if a chance was to arise.
"Four years ago I couldn't have imagined going from Elgin in the Third Division to the MLS," he told the Daily Record.
"It has been a strange journey but I've been persistent, worked hard, shown faith in my ability and been fortunate to get a couple of breaks along the way.
"I was at Ross County for four seasons, I joined the club when Alex Smith was in charge. He was replaced by John Robertson who wanted to change things around.
"I played at every youth level for Scotland to the age of 18 alongside Lee Wallace, Charlie Mulgrew and Ross McCormack.
"There is so much potential at that level but if you drop out of the scene it's so difficult to get back in.
"I've spoken with former Hearts defender Paul Ritchie who is out here coaching in North Carolina.
"He keeps in touch with (Scotland boss) Craig Levein and I know my name has been mentioned. If something like that came up I'd love it."
And Moffat says a return to Scotland to play in the Scottish Premier League could also be an option down the track but for now he is happy in Texas.
"Likewise, if the opportunity arose to play in the SPL or the Premiership I'd think about it. Guys such as Stuart Holden and Maurice Edu have made an impact at Bolton and Rangers after playing in the MLS," he added.
"But there's a lot to get excited about here. Houston are in a play-off spot and are moving into a new, purpose-built 25,000 capacity stadium in May.
"It's a fun league to play in. We have marquee signings such as Beckham, Henry and Robbie Keane."
