Houston Dynamo intent on making right call on new head coach

Houston Dynamo president Chris Canetti has made it clear that the club will not rush into appointing a new head coach and general manager.

The Texan outfit parted ways with Dom Kinnear when the 47-year old Scotsman quit to take up the job at San Jose Earthquakes from next season.

Kinnear took over the Dynamo back in 2006 after leaving San Jose and went onto win two MLS Cups while finishing runner-up on two occasions in an extremely successful tenure.

This has prompted Canetti to take his time in finding an apt replacement for Kinnear who is now back in San Jose after a decade after holding the head coach-general manager role with aplomb in Houston.

"We want to get them done as soon as possible, but the main thing is getting them right," Canetti said regarding the appointment of a new head coach and separate GM.

"We have a fairly thorough process that we'll go through that's going to take a lot of time in order for us to get through all of the candidates and get to a final decision."

Canetti added: "It's a difficult league for someone from outside the league, outside the country, to come in and understand something like the salary cap and player contracts or have relationships in and around the league to be successful right off the bat.

"It's really important that someone understands the league, and we're going to look for someone that has a pre-established global scouting network in place so we can get right to identifying talent and signing players."
