Houllier praises Liverpool owners for standing by Rodgers

Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has heaped praise on the club's owners.

Houllier clearly believes Manchester United could learn a thing or two from their fiercest rivals down the other end of the M62.

"There must be great credit to the people upstairs at Liverpool for backing Brendan and keeping him in place," the former Reds boss said.

"At some stages, I was hearing he could be in trouble. But now they deserve to win the title."

Liverpool have also done it with style this season and the attacking emphasis has been the highlight for Houllier.

"I quite enjoy Brendan's philosophy," added Houllier, who led Liverpool between 1998 and 2004.

"It is not a romantic philosophy. It is not just passing for passing sake. It is passing to go forward and to score goals."
