Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has praised his old club for landing Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman is proving himself among the best defenders in the world.

Houllier said, "Van Dijk is more powerful, very comfortable in the fight, he hurts and he runs fast.

"He is really suited to English football.

"It is not for nothing that Liverpool has invested more than €80m for him."
