Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier insists Ligue 1 is more entertaining than the Premier League.

Houllier says French fans shouldn't be running down their competition.

"I am regularly watching the English league and I can tell you that at home, they are much better matches," he said.

"It is very French to denigrate what is in L1. One lets oneself be intoxicated by the images of the German or English goals but one does not realise that certain goalkeepers are average and that the intensity is not always there."

Houllier now works as an "external advisor" to Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas.
